Transactions and Code Sets
the healthcare industry has adapted ANSCI X12N as the code set to transfer
billing and patient records between payers, providers, clearinghouses,
value added providers and business partners. Consultants are needed to code medical transactions
to comply with new HIPAA standards.
e-Business and B2B Processing
X12N Codes and will be transfered and shared by healtcare providers and partners across the business
enterprise. Microsoft's Biztalk server is a collaborative processor used to
transfer this information. EDI is generally used to transfer the information between partners. The EDI
codes are converted into XML for mapping and back-end processing within each provider's domain. Biztalk uses Accelerators
that contain industry specific templates to map amd to process information shared by various business partners.
An overview of Biztalk is outlined below:
Accelerators are used to support a broad spectrum of business scenarios and industries, from high tech to healthcare. Accelerators for BizTalk Server add new functionality and complement Microsoft .NET Enterprise Servers, vastly reducing the time, effort, and costs associated with solution development, deployment, and management. BizTalk Server accelerators include a powerful combination of product enhancements, simple-to-use tools, documentation, and samples that are developed in concert to ensure they work well together. This translates into rapid deployments, a lower overall cost of ownership, and improved efficiency.
Microsoft currently offers three BizTalk Server accelerators:
Note: BizTalk Accelerator for Financial Services will be available in the first quarter of 2003. To learn more about how this new accelerator extends the BizTalk Server platform to provide a reliable and scalable foundation for rapidly deploying Straight Through Processing (STP) solutions, visit the BizTalk Accelerator for Financial Services page.

BizTalk Accelerator for RosettaNet
BizTalk Accelerator for RosettaNet was designed with flexibility in mind, and uses BizTalk Server functionality along with RosettaNet–specific tools to provide a platform for reducing the costs and business impact associated with trading partner integration by means of RosettaNet.
BizTalk Accelerator for RosettaNet 2.0 includes all current RosettaNet Partner Interface Processes (PIPs) and full support for the RosettaNet Implementation Framework (RNIF) versions 1.1 and 2.0 to provide significant benefits, including:
- Rapid implementation. BizTalk Accelerator for RosettaNet takes advantage of the infrastructure and rapid development and deployment tools in BizTalk Server 2002. BizTalk Accelerator for RosettaNet makes the deployment process faster by combining an enterprise-class infrastructure that was built for heterogeneous IT environments, easy-to-use and easy-to-change graphical tools, and complete support for industry standards like RosettaNet (high tech), CIDX (chemicals), and PIDX (petroleum) to lower overall time, impact, and most importantly, risk associated with deploying and maintaining a RosettaNet presense.
- Increased flexibility. BizTalk Accelerator for RosettaNet is flexible enough to support the vast array of today's partnerships, and those of tomorrow. Because support is included for multiple versions of RosettaNet (1.1 and 2.0), Chemical Industry Data Exchange (CIDX), Petroleum Industry Data Exchange (PIDX), and a complete toolset for adding and managing additional standards and formats, you can establish trading partnerships with almost any organization. This same flexibility can also be extended within your organization, by enabling you to use the industry-developed adapters for integrating BizTalk Accelerator for RosettaNet into your existing business applications.
- Reduced costs. BizTalk Accelerator for RosettaNet is built on the most widespread and accepted RosettaNet standards. You can use pre-built PIPs to quickly and securely implement the processes your trading partners need. Or, you can use the Partner Agreement Wizard to import new or custom PIPs and test them before they are deployed, dramatically improving change management capabilities and reducing associated risks and costs. Keep in mind that the impact of providing a RosettaNet presence does not end at development. Enterprise-class management tools included in BizTalk Server reduce the ongoing costs of maintaining a RosettaNet presence by easing the burden of maintaining messaging infrastructure, trading relationships, and installed Partner Interface Processes.
